Comments Received on Reports
Last 2 days have increased otherwise relatively good
Shire of Gingin*Oct 29 2024I found too many flies around my dog recently. And he is really annoyed. But yesterday, I realised the fly carries blood of something. I caught one with blood yesterday and another today so far.
City of Joondalup*Oct 29 2024Worse this afternoon
Shire of Gingin*Oct 30 2024Neighbours at 587 Brookdale Road Boyanup are also infected (their Horses). Likely source to be thousands of chickens being kept in domes at Lot 148 Skippings Road Boyanup (the property abuts Brookdale Road)
Shire of Capel*Oct 30 2024Out around 8am biting
Shire of Gingin*Oct 30 2024Alot worse this afternoon higher scale of 3
Shire of Gingin*Oct 31 2024outbreak started about 2 days ago and seems to be increasing
Shire of Gingin*Nov 01 2024Working in close proximate of the brook the stable flies are in such numbers that short pants and short sleeved shirt can not be worn. The cattle congregate on sandy patches and kick up a sand storm to displace the flies. The stable flies started appearing 2 or so week ago and are gradually increasing in numbers, especially on hot windy days .
Shire of Gingin*Nov 08 2024They have been attacking the horses here for about a month now. About 10-20 flies a horse (14 horses). Unable to work horses during the day.
Shire of DardanupNov 08 2024never seen or experienced them this bad in previous years. have had to re locate horses as no continuous spraying of numerous products has been effective even to offer a break. can supply videos and more pics if required
Shire of Gingin*Nov 08 2024All day
Shire of Gingin*Nov 17 2024Humid and overcast
Shire of Gingin*Nov 18 2024bitten around house throughout the day
Shire of Gingin*Nov 19 2024Very hot day, strong wind from SW, lots of flies. My dog has dozens on him and I have been bitten on my ankles eight times in less than half an hour at time of submitting this report.
Shire of Gingin*Nov 24 202410am northerly wind. Were unable to remain at beach dues to the attack of stabieflies on both myself and our poor old dog.
Shire of Gingin*Nov 24 2024Mainly se to sse winds. Flies in since this morning making animals move roll etc
Shire of Gingin*Dec 10 2024Came in around 4-4:30pm
Shire of Gingin*Dec 11 2024Pony has severe allergy and must be covered including full leg covers. Horse used to be naked all summer but these days must wear rugs and boots because he's so irritated by the flies biting and they make him itchy.
Shire of MundaringDec 13 2024We had a confirmed (by DPIRD) outbreak of stable flies in Jan/Feb this year. We have noticed them again. They are more prevalent when it is hot, still and humid. Our outdoor pet (white labrador) has between 8 -12 flies on him at any time in the day. We have also been bitten in the garden ourselves. We have not brought any mulch, manure or compost into our garden from an external source this year or last year. When I reported the flies to DPIRD early in the year they referred me to our Council which is Melville City Council. They didn't seem to know anything much about managing the problem and it took several phone calls and emails for them to take (minimal) action. I am concerned about this as it seems either neighbours are sourcing manure/compost from the same stable fly infested provider or stable flies are now permanently established in the area. This has huge consequences for residents' ability to keep outdoor pets and to sit outside.
City of MelvilleDec 13 2024Worsening since October 2024 livestock and pets and humans affected bleeding occurring once bitten
Shire of Gingin*Dec 13 2024Yesterday 14/12 large amounts 4/5 around 5pm sw breeze. Fed animals 5:20am today flies out
Shire of Gingin*Dec 14 2024Biting at 5am
Shire of Gingin*Dec 22 2024Not been present here for at least 4 years
Shire of Gingin*Dec 22 2024Around last 2 days
Shire of Gingin*Dec 22 2024My family and myself live and have grown up in the Gingin Shire and fully understand the stable fly situation. However, the past few days would be some of the worst stable fly numbers I have ever seen. In my opinion the source would be largely contributed to Bogdanich Farms (529 Chitna Rd). They are currently harvesting cabbage and not turning over the rows correctly. If someone could please look into this ASAP as all businesses should fully understand the procedures for this with no excuse.
Shire of Gingin*Dec 23 2024During the recent extreme heat the flies were very few in number. Yesterday and today with the strong southerly wind they have come in very bad despite it being very cool and windy.
Shire of Gingin*Dec 25 2024Increasing numbers each day
Shire of Gingin*Dec 26 2024Strong southerly winds. Increasing numbers each day
Shire of Gingin*Dec 26 2024The flies were attacking my 9 year old so much it is putting her off going outside
Shire of Gingin*Dec 29 20245:30am they were biting
Shire of Gingin*Dec 31 2024Couldn't even put my horse on the grass due to flies making it gallop around
Shire of Gingin*Dec 31 2024How is this not a major issue? Approximately 5pm this afternoon. How is an animal meant to eat when dealing with this? My horses have been walking for 2 days due to constant fly infestation
Shire of Gingin*Jan 01 2025Have to move these cattle or they will start aborting their calves. Devastated!
Shire of Gingin*Jan 01 2025Mid afternoon, hot day, breeze from SW, flies really bad.
Shire of Gingin*Jan 01 2025Through Nov Dec to present time it has been very unpleasant being outdoors as stable flies a prolific.
Shire of Gingin*Jan 01 2025Bad at caraban
Shire of Gingin*Jan 03 2025Uploaded weather out at 5am
Shire of Gingin*Jan 04 2025SF have been biting noticeably for the past 3 day. I have videos taken at 11:50am of cattle being attacked in the paddock but footage is too large to upload.
Shire of Gingin*Jan 05 2025Started at 0830, hot sunny 36deg, wind NNW. Found in paddock with cows and orchard with Guinne Foul, and anywhee I walked on the property. Was the same yesterday 5 Jan 25.
Shire of Gingin*Jan 06 2025Started about 2 weeks ago. All day issues with horses, dogs and humans being bitten badly.
City of Wanneroo*Jan 07 20257am, already biting horses & others
Shire of Gingin*Jan 07 2025We’ve just recently moved to the property and had them bite us since we’ve been here! Yesterday we had a few bites as well! Wind was blowing in a northerly direction. And it was late afternoon
Shire of Gingin*Jan 07 2025Getting bitten from 5am. 2 sticky traps set this morning
Shire of Gingin*Jan 07 2025They seem to be worse between 10am and 18pm at night. Days with a light breeze are worse and days over 25deg-38ish are also worse. Horse is covered in lumps in places where is rug doesn’t reach. His under belly especially and legs. Dog has bites all over ears which are bleeding/scabs. Sheep are also effected heavily. Also biting us humans but at least we can escape it.
Shire of Gingin*Jan 08 2025Very uncomfortable to be outdoors. Relentless issue most days. Bites causing skin infections with my family.
Shire of Gingin*Jan 09 2025Stable flies have been quite mild up until now where number are increasing. Causing annoyance to horses by drawing blood on their legs. Now having to used fly boots. Observing horses on the cnr of Cockram and Lennards road are not bothered.
Shire of Gingin*Jan 13 2025Morning, south westerly breeze.
Shire of Gingin*Jan 13 2025Already out in numbers at 5:30am actively biting. Humid conditions
Shire of Gingin*Jan 16 2025Out this morning ne breeze. Rested throughout day with heat however se breeze in in afternoon flies were horrendous DPIRD contacted 8/1 still waiting for a reply from Mr Peter Cook as notified....
Shire of Gingin*Jan 16 2025Worse on hot days, have been present for 6weeks
Shire of Gingin*Jan 16 2025Stable fly problem is getting worse year after year. Nothing is getting done. When we first moved to the area in 2005 we had no stable flies. Over the years the fruit and vegetables growing areas surrounding us have increased in size markedly. Coinciding with a huge increase in stable flies. Problem is worse when the winds are east to south east. Stable fly activity duration has also increased. They are around for most of the year.
Shire of Gingin*Jan 18 2025It's late afternoon, hot day, slight breeze, and I'm getting slaughtered by flies. I've put my dog and cat inside the house for their protection but I have outside work to do and am copping it. I've been bitten at least 200 times so far.
Shire of Gingin*Jan 19 2025Our house is absolutely covered in them. We can’t even open the door without hundreds of them coming in the house. Our stock are absolutely covered in them and no matter what they do or what we do nothing is stopping them. We are also located next to one of the bogdanich farms.
Shire of Gingin*Jan 19 2025Stable fly numbers definitely increasing herasing horses legs to the point of drawing blood
Shire of Gingin*Jan 19 2025Stable flies are present every day. Cannot do gardening, hang out washing or even sit outside without being bitten several times.
Shire of Gingin*Jan 19 20257:30pm still being bitten
Shire of Gingin*Jan 20 2025The stable flies were worst today just before sunset and until after it was dark. During the day not so bad because there was no wind I think.
Shire of Gingin*Jan 21 2025Bite from 5am through to 8pm
Shire of Gingin*Jan 22 2025I didn’t realise I need to do this report daily- they are all day, during daylight hours. Can’t send kids outside for long & today I was bitten constantly despite wearing insect repellent while working outside. Happens EVERY day
Shire of Gingin*Jan 23 2025This evening from 6.00pm the stable fly are aggressive and increasing number this evening has been the worst all season
Shire of Gingin*Jan 23 20255am this morning biting. Current time of this report 7:15am. Numbers yesterday were absolutely devastating in the afternoon when the breeze came in. Sw winds. Always the same NE and SW
Shire of Gingin*Jan 24 2025Bad all All day- strong Easterly blowing.
Shire of Gingin*Jan 24 2025My poor ducks and chickens were swarmed and my daughter dogs could not go outside l. Something needs to happen
Shire of Gingin*Jan 24 2025Went to feed my horses this morning and I am getting bitten through my clothes.
Shire of Gingin*Jan 25 2025Causing my horse to constantly stamp, interspersed with cantering around the paddock & trying to seek relief in the scrub to get away. Bite welts all over her belly. I was bitten constantly while I was outside from 10.30- 3pm. Was wearing leggings deapite the hot weather in an effort to stop being bitten. Was bitten thru my leggings. Was also wearing roll-on anti-insect which was ineffective. Have taken a a anti-histamine (Loretidine 10mg to try & reduce the itching from being bitten yesterday & today
Shire of Gingin*Jan 25 2025We can’t sit outside and eat or go in the pool without getting bitten.
Shire of Gingin*Jan 25 2025Several visitors for lunch and all bitten multiple times.
Shire of Gingin*Jan 25 2025Temp- 29 Wind -SW Cooler temperatures and drizzle- stable fly still out biting
Shire of Gingin*Jan 25 2025Constant problem with stable flies, no wind today. Overcast and humid.
Shire of Gingin*Jan 26 2025Flys are relentless, my dogs have to be inside as they have bites on their ears and are constantly covered in flys. My kids dont want to play outside. My horses are rugged and fly boots on which is really not ideal on above 40 degree day. The only time we can ride our horses, even when it is cool is first thing in the morning as there is less flys. The flys have been really bad for the past week. I pick up all my horse poo every morning, sweep and and pick up hay off the ground. This morning was an overcast day. Weather in the morning was mid 20s, I was up at 5.30am and flys werent bad but were bitting. Wind was mild southernly wind no more then 8 knots. My son and I were outside gardening until around 9 am, he asked to come in as the flys were annoying him.
Shire of Gingin*Jan 26 2025Animals yesterday morning starting to show long term effects of relentless biting ie muscle contraction showing stress. Previously have had to treat horses with ulcer treatment because of stress from flies
Shire of Gingin*Jan 27 2025Stable flies have been absolute shocking this summer and have resulted in a loss of condition on my horses due to the level of fly activity. This needs to be stopped.
Shire of Gingin*Jan 28 2025Horse is constantly stamping & kicking to dislodge them. Trots or runs into the scrub or round the paddock to seek relief. My kids & myself bitten severely on exposed skin when outside.
Shire of Gingin*Jan 28 2025Lower numbers this morning slightly cooler morning however increasing.
Shire of Gingin*Jan 28 2025Biting through clothes, making my horses legs bleed.
Shire of Gingin*Jan 28 2025From 27 -30 flies have been persistent, causing stress to the horses and ourselves. Wind mainly north east
Shire of Gingin*Jan 30 2025Getting eaten alive this afternoon can't even stand still. Animals are showing larger scale of stress can't get a video cause uou and animals can't stand still long enough
Shire of Gingin*Jan 30 2025Early am biting
Shire of Gingin*Jan 30 2025They are so so bad! The horses are beside themselves even causing injuries from kicking out.
City of Swan*Jan 30 2025Wind us N/E...flies are all day.
Shire of Gingin*Jan 30 2025Stable fly have been around since the hot weather began. The dog cannot be outside during daylight hours as his nose is attacked and bleeds. We have tried using zinc cream as a barrier but it doesn’t work for more than a few minutes. The cattle are constantly harassed all day. We are bitten in the garden and even in the pool. We have to smother the grandkids in repellent if they want to play outside. Even that doesn’t stop the biting. We have put fly traps and residual insecticide outside and find hundreds of dead stable flies each day. I have tried to upload a video of the cattle but it wouldn’t load.
City of Swan*Jan 30 2025Increased fly activity in the last 5 days
Shire of Gingin*Feb 02 2025During the day the stable fly activity is increasing. In the evening stable flies are causing stress to horses and cattle. Horses are stamping and legs are bleeding. Cattle are bunching up. Dogs ears are targeted by SF. I have to cover up outside and I am continually being bitten. Although I am using sprays and covering up the horses the SF are increasing in numbers.
Shire of Gingin*Feb 04 2025Horses running welts covering body dogs running rolling on ground
Shire of Gingin*Feb 05 2025Bordering a 4 this afternoon
Shire of Gingin*Feb 05 2025Biting all day through to dusk, regardless of wind direction
Shire of Gingin*Feb 05 2025Constant flies all day.
Shire of Gingin*Feb 05 2025Been attacked all hours of the morning, day and dusk. Makes working, living and riding horrendous
City of Swan*Feb 06 2025We have only had them return since this market garden went in. I have horses with bloody legs. This can't carry on.
City of Swan*Feb 06 2025Have been noticeable for a few weeks now, worse when there is a sea breeze or no breeze at all.
City of Swan*Feb 07 2025Drawing blood from horses legs
City of Swan*Feb 07 2025Animals moving due to jot being able to rest stand still from being bitten
Shire of Gingin*Feb 07 2025Mostly biting early in the day
Shire of Gingin*Feb 08 2025Guests bitten, as well as me and dog
Shire of Gingin*Feb 08 2025From sunrise to sunset they are everywhere. The dog can only go outside after dark or his nose and ears are attacked. The cattle have hundreds on them all day - they are constantly kicking and swishing tails. We are bitten if we go in the garden - even through our clothes!
City of Swan*Feb 08 2025This has gone on all weekend. It’s constant.
Shire of Gingin*Feb 10 2025It’s been horrendous for a couple of months. Takes away the simple pleasures of being outdoors. Trying to garden and water my plants makes it hard to contend with x I have to brace myself for the onslaught and just put up with it . Not much fun and actually painful. I feel like we should be suing the shire for not ensuring the market gardens in the area are doing the right thing x we all know how bad and unscrupulous their practices are . It was controlled a long way back. Now these farmers are cutting corners and the results speak for themselves. This has gone on for way too long. Thanks for listening 👍🏼
Shire of Gingin*Feb 12 2025No idea of source, they bit all day but are horrendous from 4pm to 7pm
Shire of Chittering*Feb 12 2025I’m left with permanent marks and raised bumps on my arms. The uncontrollable painful bite and itch make me feel physically unwell. I got 12 bites in total in one night. Possible all from same fly
Shire of Gingin*Feb 12 2025All day most days
Shire of Gingin*Feb 13 2025Ongoing since November
Shire of Gingin*Feb 13 2025Stable fly activity has definitely increased. Have to cover up horses with mess rugs and boots. Dogs ears have been bleeding from the stable fly bites. Cattle bunch up in the evening. Definitely a breeding site close by. Temps have been been in the lie 30’s with slight wind. I have observed the horses on the cnr of Lennards and Cockram road are not as effected as we are.
Shire of Gingin*Feb 14 2025Unknown source, doesn’t matter what time of the day, they are to a point now where we need to keep our dogs inside because they are continuously under attack. Noticed them around start of December but are getting worse.
Shire of Gingin*Feb 15 2025There is a little horse stabled next door for a couple of years now and we get stable flies each year.
City of Swan*Feb 15 2025Biting enough to make horses irritable with stress
Shire of Gingin*Feb 15 2025Over the past week, stable fly activity has been increasing in the evenings. At 5:20 PM this afternoon, I observed horses on Cockram Road without rugs, experiencing minimal disturbance. Similarly, the horses at the corner of Cockram and Lennards Road, also without rugs, appeared largely unaffected. In contrast, my horses must be rugged and sprayed with repellent to provide relief. I am certain there is a breeding source to the east of our property, as we are the first feeding ground for stable flies.
Shire of Gingin*Feb 18 2025Late afternoon onslaught
Shire of Gingin*Feb 19 2025Basically every day since start of summer. Worse when easterly winds
Shire of Gingin*Feb 19 2025Very overcast humid day 1 horse so very being bitten that this morning has run around for 20min and still not settling also sweating which on humid days is dangerous for horses..STRESS
Shire of Gingin*Feb 20 2025Started at sun up. Most days it’s later afternoon they are at worst.
Shire of Gingin*Feb 22 2025There seems to be piles if mulch / manure across road in average paddock that has gate at Harris Road.
Shire of Gingin*Feb 23 2025Uploaded weather numbers increasing today
Shire of Gingin*Feb 25 2025Early morning, no breeze
Shire of Gingin*Feb 26 2025Out this morning worse this afternoon. One horse galloping around and stressed all day
Shire of Gingin*Feb 26 2025Easterly winds. Always have them when easterly’s.
Shire of Gingin*Feb 26 2025Wind direction moderate easterly. Biting as soon as I go outside 1030am.
Shire of Gingin*Mar 01 2025livestock severely affected, relocated our dog as she was being bitten severely and could not cope, our ability to work and enjoy our property severely affected with no optimism that things will improve until those breeding stable fly/biting fly are made accountable! Wildlife also severely affected. When we had the most severe infestation of blood sucking flies one of our cows had twins abandoning one in the turmoil of the attack. While we cannot say absolutely the cow left her calf as a result of the fly attack but when the calf was found he was covered in biting fly. We are feeding the calf, covering him with Rosemary and Cedarwood repellent each morning however he is still being attacked by S/F..B/F.
Shire of Gingin*Mar 02 2025Afternoon sea breeze yesterday brought S/F by the thousands, cattle distressed at daybreak today, loaded with flies, yarded and sprayed which gave some relief. The calf treated several times today and still has several hundred S/F on him at 6pm this evening.
Shire of Gingin*Mar 03 2025All day worse this afternoon approximately 4pm large numbers
Shire of Gingin*Mar 04 2025Over the last 2 weeks the stable flies are increasing particularly in the evening where the stable flies are aggressive to the point of horse are becoming anxious stamping their hoofs and trying to escape the biting. I bring the horses into the stables early and apply fly repellent and fly boots. There is not a day where I can give them a rug free day due to the harassment from the stable flies. the source of breading stable flies is close. Horses on Cockram road are not rugged and are only mildly effected.
Shire of Gingin*Mar 04 2025Stock movement. Stress signs 8. Biting since 5am afternoons are worse
Shire of Gingin*Mar 05 2025Definitely an outbreak near by to the east of us. Again we are the hardest hit. Cattle bunching up and horses being stressed. Horses have fly rugs, fly boots and spray. It terrible that my horses have to wear rugs on such hot days. Again horses on Cockram road and crn Cockram & Lennards roads have little impact. Our property is the first feeding ground for the SFs. Not able to upload the video so sent directly to Gingin i Spector ME
Shire of Gingin*Mar 06 2025Episode started around 5pm and is quite severe.
Shire of Gingin*Mar 06 2025First bite in a week, after almost continuous biting action since 17 Dec
Shire of Gingin*Mar 06 2025Fresh out break
Shire of Gingin*Mar 06 2025Evenings are getting worse SF very aggressive, Horses and pregnant cows are under great stress. SF coming from the east side of the property. Photos will be sent to Gingin SF officer as still not able to up load video or photo to this reporting platform
Shire of Gingin*Mar 09 2025Horrible last 3 days today terrible
Shire of Gingin*Mar 11 2025Biting started around 5.30pm
Shire of Gingin*Mar 12 2025Terrible yesterday dog had to stay inside all day today no better
Shire of Gingin*Mar 12 2025Constant flies. Every day. Affecting horses & humans. Also biting guinea pigs
Shire of Gingin*Mar 12 2025This is atrocious something has to resolve this horrendous suffering
Shire of Gingin*Mar 14 2025Several bites in a half hour period from 3pm.
Shire of Gingin*Mar 15 2025Started about lunchtime today and only just going away now at 6pm
Shire of Gingin*Mar 16 2025Last night and this morning, my husband isn't worried because they only bite me!
Shire of Gingin*Mar 17 2025Out early this morning biting bad yesterday. My horse would of lost approximately 60kg in the last month due to continual stress
Shire of Gingin*Mar 17 2025Covered this afternoon less early morning
Shire of Gingin*Mar 19 2025Please zoom in on the black marks on the rams they are holes the flies are making in their flesh.
Shire of Gingin*Mar 19 2025Newborn twin calves there were twice as many flies burrowing under their hair that you can’t see
Shire of Gingin*Mar 20 2025The stable fly numbers have definitely increased this week. Where the weather has been muggy and temperatures are increasing. The flies have been aggressive. The dogs' ears have had moderate bleeding. All horse still need to be kept in rugs, fly boots, fly masks and sprayed with repellent. I am not able to ride/train my horses in the late after as they are so distressed by the stable flies
Shire of Gingin*Mar 23 2025Attached cattle fly tags too horses rugs yesterday as of yet no difference
Shire of Gingin*Mar 23 2025We had a reprieve for a few days but the flies are back again. Dog’s nose bleeding before 8am in the morning.
City of Swan*Mar 25 2025The stable fly aggressiion continues where my horses are stiffening attack on their legs and ears. With the recent hot weather and the day light shortens the horse’s coats naturally grows longer. I have to keep fly rugs on them even though they are sweating. Seeing no releif for us or them.
Shire of Gingin*Mar 25 2025Another horrendous day same yesterday
Shire of Gingin*Mar 26 2025Mid-late afternoon.
Shire of Gingin*Mar 26 2025Flies attacking newborn calves. Caused one to climb into a pile of logs to try to escape their attack. He was lodged between and would have died if I hadn’t noticed him. Having to move more of our cattle to other properties today.
Shire of Gingin*Mar 26 2025Out before sunrise fed animals at 6:30pm and they were still covered
Shire of Gingin*Mar 27 2025Extremely distressing
Shire of Gingin*Mar 27 2025Biting commenced around 3.45pm.
Shire of Gingin*Mar 28 2025At breaking point! Going to stop farming!
Shire of Gingin*Mar 29 2025Continual Increase in stable flies and aggressive attack on our horses and dogs. It is cruel and inhumane, this needs to be reported to the RSPCA
Shire of Gingin*Mar 29 2025Noticed worse biting flies the past two weeks after the storms and hot weather. Horses are being pestered
Shire of Kalamunda*Apr 01 2025I have no words. Just tears!
Shire of Gingin*Apr 01 2025Stressed animals again
Shire of Gingin*Apr 05 2025Please note this is everyday. Biting 5:30am. Current time is 7:35am. 2 horses with approx 50 SF at a minimum already
Shire of Gingin*Apr 11 2025Newborn lambs attacked
Shire of Gingin*Apr 16 2025Flies are back at strong numbers Wednesday and Thursday causing stress to animals
Shire of Gingin*May 01 2025Got home at 4pm, horse fairly well covered by flies. Kids getting bitten. Not absolutely horrendous but quite bad.
Shire of Gingin*May 09 2025With unseasonably warm weather this has increased the activity in Stable flies which has progressively got worse over the last 2 weeks. Again our animals feel the full impact as the flies are come from the east of us where they are harvesting. Horses on Cockram road have little impact. Ha ring to put fly rugs on my horses with their winter grown coats is distressing. Very little change from growers poor practices to the east of us. Happy to provide video as this site does not allow me to upload
Shire of Gingin*May 15 2025Bad again numbers increasing
Shire of Gingin*May 15 2025Already a 4 since approx 8am this morning
Shire of Gingin*May 17 2025Bad again
Shire of Gingin*May 19 2025Although the stable flies have been less we still have them now to the point I still have to keep fly rugs on my horses. Surrounding properties mostly to the east are still breading stable flies. With the rain and moderate warm weather makes it worse. We do not get a break it is all year round because of poor farming practices around us.
Shire of Gingin*May 31 2025Slightly higher than a 3 even in this rain
Shire of Gingin*Jun 03 2025Disgraceful worse than yesterday
Shire of Gingin*Jun 05 2025Bordering a 4 this afternoon wnd started as a n to nw now westerly
Shire of Gingin*Jun 18 2025We have had an increase of stable fly attack when the day warms up from midday to late afternoon the stable flies are extremely active. The vegetables farms to the east of us are constantly creating breading sites with poor practices. Our property is the first site the flies persue a blood feed. I have observed the horses and cattle on Cockram Road where there is very little activity. We do not get any relief during the winter from attacks this is very frustrating and sole distroying
Shire of Gingin*Jun 25 2025I was bitten through my leggings in the afternoon, overcast weather with little wind. First experience of these pests, no idea where it came from.
Shire of Gingin*Jul 02 2025Cold rainy conditions and still large numbers of sf
Shire of Gingin*Jul 03 2025Its winter!! and with one warm (ish day) there were approx 7 - 10 flies on the front legs of one of our horses.
City of Swan*Jul 04 2025Every day, our animals are troubled by stable flies, but on Sunday, 6th July, the situation was particularly bad due to a strong easterly wind. Our cattle are under constant stress from the relentless attacks, and our horses are suffering as well. Notably, the cattle and 3 horses paddocked on the eastern side of our property are experiencing the worst of the infestation. It is clear that the flies are being bred east of us. We are extremely frustrated, as the vegetable growers in that area continue to practice poor land and waste management, seemingly with little regard for the consequences. The weather remains mild with occasional rain, which is further contributing to the stable fly outbreak. There is no respite from these ongoing fly attacks, it's incredibly frustrating and concerning for the welfare of our livestock. Interestingly, the horses and cattle on Cockram Road are experiencing very little disturbance, highlighting the localized nature of the issue.
